Our Company
End to end survey technology services
We are an independent company specialising in IT services for market research. Our clients use us to help them run their surveys more effectively, giving them time to concentrate on the research rather than project management. We are an MRS Company Partner, so you can be sure we operate within the industry Code of Conduct. We are accredited to the ISO20252 Market Research Quality Standard for web surveys and data processing.
We started in 1989 and now employ 19 people. Our headquarters are in London, UK with consultants in Gothenburg, Sweden and New York, USA. 14 of us have more than 10 years experience in the industry, and we have a reputation for being able to handle the most complex projects around. However we’re just as happy and capable working on small one-off projects. We know that your reputation rests on your ability to deliver useful results to your clients, and we can help you by providing a reliable service.
In addition to providing IT services we advise and train people in SPSS market research software. Our initial expertise was in Quantum, one of the most powerful DP and tabulation systems, but we have since branched out into PASW interviewing and reporting.
Our people
Adrian Scamell
(Temporary picture)Adrian (otherwise known as Abo) joined Cobalt Sky in January 1993 and is a director of the company responsible for complex continuous projects. He has been working on the DP side of market research since 1976 when he began work at NOP. In those days there was only one computer for the whole company - things have changed a lot since then. Adrian has a passion for aeroplanes, he learnt to fly in 1979 and currently is a member of SkyTrek Aviation at Rochester Airport in Kent.
Alastair Sweeney
Alastair joined the CAI team as a trainee survey programmer in 2006. He previously worked as a sound engineer after graduating in Popular Music and Recording at Salford University. He is now a fully qualified consultant and specialises in creative survey design. In his spare time he plays guitar, although he's currently between bands.
Alex Eversfield
Alex joined Cobalt Sky as a senior DP consultant at the end of 2004. He started in market research at Quantime working for Raz alongside Mike and Ralph. Next he moved to NOP where he concentrated on automotive research in his last years there. Then after joining RI for a couple of years as a senior specwriter he moved to Isis Research (now part of Synovate Healthcare) where he was DP manager for 7 years. Outside work Alex continues with his lifelong interest in motorbikes.
Allan Shaw
Allan joined Cobalt Sky in March 2010 as Business Development Manager
bringing over 20 years experience in B2B sales. Allan lives in Sussex with his
wife Lesley and his two young children, James and Olivia. So hobbies, spare time
and disposable income are all now things of the past! Should an occasion to
relax ever present its self Allan can be found either reading, or cooking up a
storm in the kitchen
Andy Salmons
Andy joined Cobalt Sky in 1997 and is the deputy CAI manager and one of the senior programmers in the team. He has worked in market research since 1989 starting out as a data entry clerk / supervisor for NOP in Chelmsford before moving to their Covent Garden office as a CATI programmer. He is mad about anything to do with sport and even madder for being a passionate supporter of Manchester City.
Bakhtawr Rashid
Bakhtawr joined Cobalt Sky in 2005, after graduating from the University of Hertfordshire with a Computer Science degree. He works in the Development department as an Applications Developer. He loves cars and spends many a weekend tinkering with them.
Brian Atkinson

Fiona Walmsley
Fiona joined Cobalt Sky in January 2003 as a Senior CAI Consultant. She originally started in DP, way back in 1996, when she joined BMRB as a graduate learning how to script CATI & CAPI projects. In 1999 she joined Ipsos as the IT Manager for their International CATI Centre, where she learnt everything about Quancept CATI. She is now a mum and enjoying all the fun that goes along with being a parent. She loves to travel, read bestselling novels and watch films - all of which are impossible with a 2 year old around!
Kelly Hobbins
Kelly joined Cobalt Sky in 2004, after graduating from the University of Reading with a History degree. She works in the Data Processing department and initially trained to be a Quantum spec writer. Recently she has moved onto TOM programming and is preparing a training course for Cobalt Sky. Kelly is a keen runner, and is partial to a bit of karaoke!
Mark Morton
Mark joined Cobalt Sky in 1998 and currently works as the Web Surveys and Information Delivery Manager managing the CAI and Development teams. He has worked in the market research technology field since 1987 with MaS, NOP and Research International, starting in data processing and moving into programming with an emphasis on MSOffice and then into management. Outside of work he tries to keep fit by running and attempting to finish Triathlons and relaxes by attempting to hit a stationary target with his English longbow.
Michelle Glass
Michelle joined Cobalt Sky in 2007 and currently works as a CAI consultant. Prior to that she worked at Millward Brown and Kantar Operations for 7 and a half years in DP before moving into the CAI department for 2 and a half years. She spends most of her weekends running around after her 13 year old daughter, frequently finding out how much has changed in terms of teaching methods since she was at school!
Mike Wooderson
Mike joined Cobalt Sky in 1990 and is currently DP Director. Prior to Cobalt Sky, he worked at TNS where he was in charge of continuous survey processing and, before that, Quantime (Now, SPSS-IBM) in the Tabulation Bureau. He can often be found listening and watching England and Surrey play cricket, so naturally happiness does not enter into this habit too often!
Ralph Westwood
Ralph started his market research career in 1983 at Quantime (now SPSS-IBM) then moved to Dart (now GfK-NOP).He joined Cobalt Sky (then ATP) in 1990 to work on complex continuous Quantum projects and develop in-house software, both of which he continues to do to this day. His work took him to Sweden for 2 years, where he met his wife Berit, and where he now lives, still learning Swedish and training to cycle 300km around the Swedish lake Vättern, next July.
Raz Khan
Raz helped establish Cobalt Sky (then ATP) in 1989 and is the managing director. He has worked in the market research technology field since 1977 at PBT as tab bureau manager (programming on punch cards), Quantime (now SPSS-IBM), where he managed the tab bureau and support teams, and AGB (now TNS-RI) where he helped pilot Superpanel. He is currently rediscovering a love for drawing and painting, and trying hard to learn Spanish.
Rebecca Cole
Rebecca joined Cobalt Sky in 2006 as a graduate and currently works as a DP consultant. Prior to this she was studying for her degree in Film Studies at Brunel University. In her spare time she enjoys playing for a local netball team and is an avid tennis fan.
